This year, Mariah Carey's campaign to dominate the holiday season started in early November.Carey is used to seeing her song "All I Want for Christmas Is You" rise to the top of the charts every year during the holidays. Now she wants to trademark "Queen of Christmas," which is causing tension among other performers.

Carey formally trademarked the phrase "Queen of Christmas" in March of last year, and the application was released to the public on July 12. According to the trademark application submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the trademark would extend to a wide variety of goods, such as perfumes, lotions, nail polish, jeweler, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, aprons, bibs, bibs, bibs, and bibs, as well as food, drink, decorations, and musical compositions.A declaration of opposition to Carey's trademark claim was submitted by vocalist Elizabeth Chan on Friday.

Carey applied to trademark the phrase "Carey Christmas" in March of 2021, and now fellow Christmas singer Elizabeth Chan is officially challenging her. Chan has made a living off of creating and distributing Christmas music for the past decade. She called her 2021 album "The Queen of Christmas" after being dubbed "the Queen of Christmas" in a New Yorker profile published in 2018. How enthusiastic is Chan about the holiday season? She named her first baby Noelle and launched a record label called Merry Bright Music. Obviously, she didn't think much of Carey's trademark application, and she just submitted a declaration to the trademark appeals board to try to stop it.

According to an interview Chan gave to Variety, he believes "extremely firmly" that no one individual should hold onto anything around Christmas or monopolies it in the way that Mariah intends to in perpetuity. That's why Christmas is for everyone. The point is to share it, not to hoard it. Without the trademark, Chan would like the "Queen of Christmas" moniker to remain available to anybody, from musicians to Etsy shop owners, and yes, even Carey. Chan's attorney, Lou's. W. Tempos, issued a declaration in which he pointed out that Carey has previously rejected the "Queen of Christmas" title. In an interview on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show in 2021, she remarked, "That was other people, and I just want to respectfully say that I don't consider myself that." Mary is the Queen of Christmas, she said, and "I'm someone that loves Christmas, that happened to be blessed to write 'All I Want for Christmas Is You.'"
